So what’s so special about this bracket?

I’ve been promising you all a Specialty Bracket update, and I didn’t want to disappoint on such a nice Friday (seriously, is it time for a patio and umbrella drinks yet?). So here we go. . .

Submissions for the Specialty Bracket will end Monday, May 10 at 5 PM. After that point they will be randomly drawn and the first round of Specialty Bracket voting will begin on Tuesday, May 11. Instead of a setup like the traditional bracket, voting will be differently for this one (it IS special, afterall). Depending how many more submissions we get, I will put up two or three head-to-head battles per day. By doing this, we should end up with the Traditional and Specialty Bracket champions being named on the same day (oh, so there was a method to your madness?).

So if you’ve got some specialty tacos you want to submit, send me an e-mail with the name of the restaurant AND the name of the taco (just suggesting Good 2 Go won’t cut it. . .but I think I have their entire menu already).

And don’t forget that voting for the traditional bracket will end Monday at midnight!

And then there were 16 (and a contest!)

A couple upsets happened in the second round of voting – #5 El Ranchito took down Bishop Arts favorite #4 Vera Cruz Cafe in the SW Bracket and #5 Taqueria El Grande beat #4 Aztec Tortillas in the NE Bracket.

After this we’re only one round away from crowning bracket champions and moving on to the Final Four.

Voting for this round will be shorter!

Instead of a full week, voting will end at 12:01 am, Tuesday, May 11. Get your votes in early and spread the word. It’s time to kick this bracket into high gear!

It’s also time to announce the final contest of the 2010 Dallas Taco Bracket: Create the Championship Logo

Do you have crazy art skills? Are you often referred to as a Photoshop Picasso or an Illustrator Inspiration? Do you want to have your work immortalized in the shape of a framed certificate AND get a Taco Survival Kit (more information to come on what this will include) courtesy of Dallas Taco Bracket?

If so, here’s what we’re looking for:

A high quality design that includes ‘Dallas Taco Bracket 2010 Champion’ and reflects not only the deliciousness of the taco but the awesomeness that is our city. Y’all are creative so I’m not going to put any more specifics on it – just be aware that it needs to look good big and small so a lot of detail could count against you.

Put your pens down, taco heads

I’m still shaking off the cob webs from an incredibly fun Cinco de Mayo. What started off as a styrofoam container of tacos from Fuel City quickly devolved into a 32 oz Sol chug contest between me and a couple buddies (note: you can not drink by the pool at Fuel City. . .you’re welcome) and things spiraled down from there.

Now I’m at my desk with a slight headache and still flossing out the last bits of delicious barbacoa. . .but there’s work to be done.

Second Round Voting Now Open!

Voting for the first round of the traditional bracket has ended and it was close! Voting for round two will end at midnight on Thursday, May 6, 2010. This should give you all a chance to celebrate with some new taco munchies on Cinco de Mayo You will notice that the taco spots now have ranks. This is how the match-ups will be determined from now until only one taco spot remains. I’ve received a lot of suggestions on voting for the next round (will it be NE/SE/NW/SW or just East v. West or North v South) and for now it’s still up in the air. I think I would rather see the big hitters in each bracket go head to head first (ex. Fuel City v Mia’s) – We shall see!

Also, a new contest is in the works and there will be more information about it this afternoon – get your creative hats on!

Who wants free tacos?

The voting for round one closes in less than 24 hours. As I write this, five polls are separated by fewer than five votes. That means they could very easily end up as ties. That means I’m going to need one of you to come spend some quality time with me driving to these spots and stuff your face with tacos on my dime.

How can this be you? Glad you asked!

Simply send me an e-mail with your name and contact info (e-mail is fine – I know some people aren’t crazy about some weird taco guy having your phone number). You must be able to meet me around 11:30 am on Saturday – and you better be ready to have your beautiful face videotaped and photographed while you eat.

Also, did you think the first round of voting was too long? Should I shorten it up? If so, let me know how much shorter you’d prefer.

Things are about to get interesting!

That’s right, all you taco heads – the bracket’s are open! Voting for the first round of the traditional bracket will end at midnight on Thursday, April 29, 2010. Matchups were chosen by simply drawing names out of a hat (more specifically a cloth crown. . .it’s good to be the Taco King).
