The four tacos you’ll meet in heaven

I’ve spent the past month trying to be as unbiased as possible. This poll, however, has me at a complete loss. The four tacos in the final matchup for the specialty bracket are seriously some of my favorites around town. While I will always love a traditional pastor taco more than any other, the tacos listed below are by far some of the best in the specialty bracket. In one matchup we have the SoCo vs the brisket taco – sausage vs brisket, complex vs deceptively simple – both amazingly tasty in completely different ways.

The second matchup is brisket vs it’s south of the border cousin carnitas. Two Dallas favorites, Desperados and Victor Tango’s battle it out for specialty taco supremacy. Both bring an extra bit of upscale flare to the street style taco – only one will continue on to the next round.

I’ve been able to predict most of the matchups so far with accurate results, but this round has me stumped. . .no matter how it turns out, I’ll be surprised.

This round will end Thursday at 12:01 am and then only one round of voting will separate us from specialty taco supremacy. Tell your friends and let the tasty tasty voting begin!

Igniting the Finals: Championship Bracket

As some of you know, I’m speaking at IgniteDallas on June 2 (tickets) about Dallas, tacos and this website. At the first IgniteDallas over 400 people watched live and another 200 live streamed the event. . .no pressure, right?

I wanted to do something special in my presentation and an idea struck me last week: Why not shut the polls for the traditional bracket right before I speak?

So, at some point between 7:30 and 10:00pm that night, I’ll close the poll, take the stage and either crown Urban Taco or Taqueria El Si Hay as the best traditional taco in town. I’ll also be announcing the 3 finalists in the specialty bracket – can you feel the excitement?!

If you’re free on Wednesday, June 2 and want to come hang out with some awesome people and here some incredible speakers, come on down. I’ll also be announcing the plans for the future of Dallas Taco Bracket and other big news!

But enough shameless self-promotion. Let’s get down to the good stuff – vote for your Traditional Bracket Champion below!

Contests, Voting and Tacos. Oh my!

Happy Cinco de Mayo Taco Heads!

We are just about 12 hours away from shutting down voting for round two and it looks like we might need some taco tasters for this Saturday. If you’d still like to be considered, shoot an e-mail over to dallastacobracket@gmail.com and let me know why I should pay for your food (starving student? greedy bachelor? taco freak with no change in the couch cushions?).

The haiku contest will also wrap up tonight. If you haven’t already, submit your best taco haiku in the comments section here and you could walk away with $20 in tacos from a local favorite.

I’m trying to find a friendly place around town to sponsor some taco fun so if you have any suggestions let me know – if you are a friendly place around town, why the hell haven’t we talked yet?

Don’t forget to vote and get ready for an accelerated Elite Eight round!

Second Round Voting Now Open!

Voting for the first round of the traditional bracket has ended and it was close! Voting for round two will end at midnight on Thursday, May 6, 2010. This should give you all a chance to celebrate with some new taco munchies on Cinco de Mayo :) You will notice that the taco spots now have ranks. This is how the match-ups will be determined from now until only one taco spot remains. I’ve received a lot of suggestions on voting for the next round (will it be NE/SE/NW/SW or just East v. West or North v South) and for now it’s still up in the air. I think I would rather see the big hitters in each bracket go head to head first (ex. Fuel City v Mia’s) – We shall see!

Also, a new contest is in the works and there will be more information about it this afternoon – get your creative hats on!

Click on the links below to go to that bracket’s second round of voting. You will see the results of the poll after you’ve submitted your votes.
