Why are we doing this?
Our fair city has been overrun with tacos. They’re everywhere: grocery stores, drive-thrus, street vendors, gas stations, swanky restaurants, chains, stand alone spots. They’re all offering up the same old taco with slightly different variations. . .but which one’s doing it best? That’s why we’re here.
This site is simply a resource for you to find the best tacos in the Dallas area. Maybe we’ll have an event or two so we can all meet up and eat some delicious tacos. . .maybe we won’t. This website isn’t sponsored by any of the taco places discussed – but many thanks to those that are helping to spread the word.
The Dallas Taco Bracket will use an NCAA style bracket system to find which tacos are the best in the Dallas. Of course, there are some ground rules.
There are two different brackets:
Bracket 1:
The Traditional: Taco spots in this bracket will be based off the classic tacos: Judging will be based on tacos like beef fajita, barbacoa, al pastor, etc.
Bracket 2:
Specialty Tacos: Some spots in our fair city take pride in being a little more inventive when it comes to the delectable taco. Whether it’s using waffle batter fried chicken, freshly pulled brisket or tofu and eggplant; these spots are the ones that really push the edges of the tortilla (yes, they must use a tortilla). Votes in this bracket will be for a specific taco (ex. The Hotlanta from Good 2 Go Taco) and feel free to include a basic description of the taco with your submissions.
Who qualifies?
Any place in Dallas or one of the immediate outlying cities (not Ft. Worth. . .we’ll get to you, I swear). The Traditional Bracket will be divided into Northeast, Southeast, Northwest and Southwest with 635 and 75 as the dividing highways.
The Specialty Bracket will be a division-less royal rumble of taco battle.
Who decides?
You! All this site is doing is providing a battle ground. It’s up to you to decide who wins best tacos in Dallas. Sound off! Tell your friends! Hell, tell your enemies! There are no wrong answers (well. . .maybe there are, but we won’t make fun of you publicly).
So sound off, Dallas! Let us know who should be included – send me an email, sound off on Facebook, submit your favorite pics to Flickr, yell at me on Twitter or comment away below.
Can you post a list of all the locations competing? Some of these I’ve never heard of, and would like to try them before voting.
Absolutely! If you check out this post: You can find a set of handy maps that will show you where all the locations are (note some will be inside gas stations).
You can also find more info about each spot on food review sites like CitySearch.com and Yelp.com.
Thanks for checking us out!
Our region is southeast and there are too many amazing ones to choose from. Our favorites are Tepa, Tacqueria Tizoncito, Gonzales, and the list goes on. Check out our website for more recommendations.
Great site! What would you guys think about taking a Saturday and showing me some of your favorite spots in O.C.?
Just revisited this posting to find I am approximately 7 months late in responding! If you are still up for tacos we are too.

Any plans to do this yet again? I’d say there might be more competitors out there now…
Absolutely! We’ll re-open the bracket at the end of March/Early April – also get ready for a Fort Worth Bracket as well.
I hope to see some new spots mentioned this year and I’ll be working on adding some new features and taco spotlights so we can really get the taco party started!
